Sleepyhead Grand Review – Is It Worth It? | The Original Toddler Sleeping Pod
My youngest son is now 16 months old and has been Sleepyhead Grand well ever since, but with one condition: being close to Mom! We co-slept since he was a newborn because he had reflux, which meant he had to sleep on his side, and I liked sleeping next to him to keep him positioned and to hear him if he threw up. I was worried he would roll over or lie flat and throw up if he were in a crib at that time. Co-sleeping was the only solution.
The reflux lasted a few months, but our son continued to sleep in our bed almost every night until recently. Co-sleeping is a hard habit to break, but even with a super king-size bed, we wanted our space back. Our children take up a lot of space in our bed because they sleep like starfish, spinning around like helicopters… Our oldest is 3.5 and often comes to visit us in the middle of the night. We started putting our youngest to sleep in his own bed, and he at least stays there for the first half of the night, but he wakes up after a few hours wanting cuddles and some closeness. Sleeping alone in a bed is very different from sleeping next to your mother. So I understand entirely why he wakes up constantly.
I used a baby nest with our oldest son. And it worked well for him; it helped him sleep in his own bed as a baby. When I saw the Sleepyhead Grand online (a sleep pod for toddlers), I knew I wanted to try it with my son to see if it would help him transition from co-sleeping to sleeping in his own bed.
The Sleepyhead Grand is a multi-purpose pod for children aged 8-9 months to 36 months. It’s like an enormous baby nest, perfectly sized for a standard crib. It can be used for sleeping, cuddling, playing, relaxing, and resting, both at home and while travelling. It includes a protective bag for transport and storage when not in use. It’s ideal for transitioning to a crib, like the one we use today, because the air bumpers make it safer and more comfortable. The bumpers also act as railings, preventing children from rolling out of cribs without side rails at night.

Lovingly designed in Sweden and manufactured in Europe. All materials used are breathable, washable, and hypoallergenic. The Sleepyhead GRAND offers excellent air permeability. All filling materials are obtained from world-leading suppliers and are breathable, hygienic, and non-toxic. Globally patented.
I love that the Sleepyhead Grand is completely breathable and has been rigorously tested and proven safe. When it arrived, I put it in my son’s bed, and it was perfect timing, as it was nap time, so that I could try it out right away. It worked perfectly from the start! This nap was the longest he’d ever had, and I had to wake him up!
The first night was also excellent: my son slept in his own bed, comfortably in the Sleepyhead Grand, until 5:55 a.m., the longest he had ever slept. Almost always, he was in our bed before midnight. Sometimes he would wake up before we even went to bed!
We had a few more great nights, and then my son caught a bad cold (and so did we) and started teething. Since then, he hasn’t slept well. But he still sleeps better in the Sleepyhead Grand than he did before we had it, even with the cold and teething. The cold will soon pass, and hopefully, this teething will be over more quickly!
I firmly believe that the Sleepyhead Grand is effective and helps children sleep longer if they wake up because they don’t feel safe or comfortable. My son’s problem is that he wants to be close to us and is used to not being alone in bed. I think the Sleepyhead Grand makes sleeping in his crib more like sleeping in our bed, which is why he sleeps longer and relaxes better, as he doesn’t suddenly wake up in an empty bed. We use a crib duvet with the Sleepyhead Grand now that it’s getting colder at night.
If your child wakes up for any reason other than wanting more cuddles, they won’t magically sleep soundly. Of course, it doesn’t treat teething. Nasal congestion. Coughs, hunger, thirst. Nightmares, or other things that can wake a baby, toddler, or young child at night. But it does make children more comfortable in bed.
Also, this product makes it easier to transfer my sleeping son from our bed to his. Before, he would wake up almost half the time when I put him on his mattress. But now, when I put him in his Sleepyhead Grand, he stays asleep because it’s so comfortable and cosy. It’s just like our bed! He hasn’t woken up once since the Sleepyhead arrived. He always falls asleep in our bed; I don’t like babies who fall asleep on their own! I don’t mind it anymore because I know it won’t be a problem to transfer him to his own bed.
The Sleepyhead Grand costs around £200. You can currently buy the plain white one for £180 on Amazon.co.uk. The patterned ones are a little more expensive. It’s a bit pricey, but I think it’s worth the price and the investment. Many people make their own sleep pods. But you can’t guarantee that the product and materials are safe or meet the required standards for selling a product like this.
After reading about all the testing that Sleepyhead products undergo, I believe it’s safe to use them with your children. You’re paying for the product’s quality and safety. The Sleepyhead Grand is entirely breathable, so if your child likes to bury their face in the sides or the mattress. Don’t worry. As they can breathe through the materials.
My only safety concern is that the pod creates a step that children can climb on and use to get out of the crib. I only use the video monitor with my child when he’s sleeping, and we’re downstairs. At night, we’re in the same room, so we can hear him if he wakes up. And we’ll soon be using a crib side as a toddler bed.
You can buy a separate replacement cover to match your decor and have a spare in case you need to wash it. All the parts are available as replacements if you need them, which is excellent if you have a baby who gets sick a lot or if you’re potty training. The extras and replacement parts are also quite expensive.
A good night’s sleep is priceless (well, many good nights’ sleep!), and many parents are willing to pay more for it. You can use the Sleepyhead Grand for at least 28 months. So if you get a basic one, it works out to less than £6.50 a month or about 21 pence a night. Which isn’t bad at all. I think it’s worth it!
